MOV

MOV (Metal Oxide Varistors), also known as Metal Oxide Varistors. At present, most of the varistors used in the market for surge protection of low-voltage electrical appliances are varistors made of zinc oxide as the main material. They are polycrystalline semiconductor ceramic components made of zinc oxide as the main material, doped with various metal oxides, and using typical electronic ceramic processes. MOVs are generally connected in parallel in a circuit, and when the circuit operates normally, they are in a high resistance state, which does not affect the normal operation of the circuit. When an abnormal transient overvoltage occurs in the circuit and reaches its conduction voltage (varistor voltage), the MOV quickly changes from a high resistance state to a low resistance state, releasing the instantaneous overcurrent caused by the abnormal transient overvoltage. At the same time, the abnormal transient overvoltage is clamped within a safe level to protect the subsequent circuit from damage caused by the abnormal transient overvoltage.
